DIY Government Strives for 'Informative' Public Bodies in Information Services

PBI News – The Secretary of Yogyakarta Special Region (DIY), Beny Suharsono, emphasized the necessity for all public bodies within the DIY government and those in its regencies and cities to achieve the 'informative' status in information services. This goal, he stated, is not merely a mark of achievement but a mandatory requirement for all public bodies.

Speaking at the Kick Off Monitoring and Evaluation (Monev) of Public Information Transparency in DIY for 2024, held in the Bappeda DIY Meeting Room at the Kepatihan Complex, Yogyakarta, Beny expressed his hopes for the upcoming evaluation.

"It is our obligation to provide open and accountable public information services, including mitigating risks associated with public service transparency, as public information transparency is protected by law," he affirmed.

In the 2023 Monev, nearly all public bodies in DIY achieved the 'informative' category, with only 24 out of 383 public bodies being rated as 'non-informative.' Beny urged all public bodies to improve their public service quality, aiming for at least the 'less informative' or 'fairly informative' categories.

"Transparency in information must be matched with the quality of information services, starting from the leadership level. Governor's assurance mandates us to ensure public information transparency, so we need to strengthen each other," he added.

Erniati, the Chairperson of the DIY Regional Information Commission (KID), also spoke at the event, highlighting KID's role in monitoring and evaluating the implementation of public information transparency governance in public bodies.

"The purpose of Monev is to measure the level of public openness in each public body, providing feedback and serving as a basis for policy-making on public information transparency," she explained.

Public bodies participating in the Monev include regional government organizations (OPD) in DIY, OPDs in the regencies/cities of DIY, regional-owned enterprises (BUMD) in DIY, and BUMDs in the regencies/cities of DIY, as well as village administrations in DIY. For village administrations, KID aims for approximately 20% participation.

"This year, we target at least 20% of villages in DIY to participate in the Monev, with the expectation that this number will increase annually until all villages are participants," Erniati stated.

The event, themed 'Public Bodies Level Up, Information Services Improve,' was attended by the Head of the DIY Communication and Informatics Office, Heri Edi Tri Wahyu Nugroho, the Head of the Government Administration Bureau of the DIY Secretariat, KPH Yudanegara, KID DIY members, and representatives from regencies and cities in DIY. The Monev process will continue until early December 2024.***
